Putty Chisel – Remove old putty from window sashes

A putty chisel is a tool for removing window putty. The chisel features an adjustable support wheel that allows you to control the depth of chisel and prevents it from getting stuck either on the glazing points or between the windowpane and sash. Additionally, the fact that you don’t have to apply any pressure on the windowpane itself means that you significantly decrease the risk of cracking the glass while cutting and removing putty from the grooves.

Window putty removal

For decades, we have developed window restoration tools and perfected the process, making putty removal as easy and safe as possible. We recommend heating paint using infrared light. IR makes putty soft and pliable, while ensuring temperatures never reach a point that would risk damaging the windowpane or sash. The putty chisel is designed to deliver the best results when paired with the Putty Scraper, the perfect tool for removing putty from windowpanes. In our step-by-step guide, you can learn how to restore old windows.

Expert Advice You Can Trust

Chris lives nearby so I hired him for advice about adding insulation and Unico AC to our 1889 house and repairing the antique carriage doors on our 1930s garage. He spent an hour with me looking at everything thoroughly and making suggestions, then followed it up the next day with a detailed report complete with explanatory photos and contact information for a couple of craftsmen he thought could help me. His enthusiasm was a pleasure and his expert advice was both helpful and reassuring — much like it is online.
