Chris lives nearby so I hired him for advice about adding insulation and Unico AC to our 1889 house and repairing the antique carriage doors on our 1930s garage. He spent an hour with me looking at everything thoroughly and making suggestions, then followed it up the next day with a detailed report complete with explanatory photos and contact information for a couple of craftsmen he thought could help me. His enthusiasm was a pleasure and his expert advice was both helpful and reassuring — much like it is online.

I love being a part of a community of people who love old houses and work hard to bring them some life and viability in this new millennium. The combination of being able to offer help to someone who may be going through an old house experience you went through or to learn some tricks especially, for me, in the restoration vein of saving old houses. I recently called my realtor, whom I bought my house from 3 years ago, to explain a problem and as for a contractor’s recommendation. He politely asked me if I regretted buying an older home as we wrapped up the conversation. Admittedly, I had been having those thoughts as of late. alot of soultions to problems that are unorthodox to soultions i would find in books. the group is helpful because other members has tried soultions to your problems so you have multiple fixes in case one doesnt work. besides its fun talking about the struggles and joys of an old house
