Family in rural France begin work on abandoned 300-year-old barn restoration | Living in the Loire

Brook starts work on the 300-year-old barn restoration! Over the coming months we're hoping to transform this into an arts studio for us both but there's a lot of work to be done first. Brook begins by pointing the walls that will remain exposed stone. Like a lot of the property these also had bits of cement added onto them by previous owners so he had to chip that all out first in order to allow the limestone to breathe.

There's also some family fun in the garden with the harvest of the garlic and cherries along with planting out some more crops.

Welcome to Living in the Loire, we are a young family in rural France, renovating previously poorly converted barns. We aim to do most of the work ourselves, being as frugal and as eco as possible!

We are learning on the job and we hope to share the skills we pick up along the way. When possible we will take you on a tour of the region (the garden of France) sharing with you the numerous chateaux, towns and markets.

As well as the house we will be transforming the garden, bringing part of it back to its previous use as a potager. This is our dream and one of the main reasons of leaving the city to move to the countryside in France.

Join us on our journey!
